I am going to be setting up a network inthe near future for radio station
'Air1' (New Zealand).
Our network is going to be as follows:
Server running Debian linux with 2 network cards (one, for ADSL internet -
patch cable plugs into internet router two, plugs into network switch)
The rest of the computers are going to be running Windows XP Home and
Profesional.
Each computer will acess the net via the server.
I have figured it out with the webviewing side, using squids lan proxy.
My problem come when understanding the email side of things.
We want to use Outlook (using pop3 + smtp).
My questions are,
1) How does the email get to the outside server and how would I do that with
Debian. The comp will look for port 110 and how will it find it? At work we
have a linux server and when I go into command on my work comp i can ping
the outside world (ie google).
How would I get this all set up on the network.
The internet browsing is not a problem, all I have to do is go into ie
properties and set the ip address of the server and quids port name (ie
192.168.0.0 : 3128)
Its the rest of the connection im going to have issues.
And is DNS involved in the email part somehow?
Im not very knowledgeable about somethings so if someone can explain all
that to me that would be awesome!
Thanks,
Jesse Archer.
