Hello all,

I dont know the exact group where I should post my questions. So, I m
doing it on most of the groups which support components of LAMP stack.

My client wants to use WAMP ( Windows + apache + MySQL + PHP ). But the
site performance is very slow on windows. I dont know the exact
reasons.

I have seen some benchmark details on internet. But still they are not
having concrete facts to support LAMP as a better alternative to WAMP.
Allmost all the search done on google melts down to IIS vs Apache, My
main concern is "Apache on LINUX" v/s "Apache on Windows" and similarly
for PHP/MySQL.

It would be greatfull if you guys can help me out with finding support
for LAMP, if its better ( in first place, I can say better coz I have
seen its performance. ).

Please point out urls and reference to complete my research of LAMP vs
WAMP.

Site specification:

writtein in PHP5, MySQL 4.1.3 ( InnoDB ).

Before jumping to the conclusion that LAMP is measurably faster
than WAMP you should attach an inexpensive server to your
network and test both environments on the same server.

If your suspicions are correct you will then have data to take
to management so that they can reconsider their choice of
Windows over Linux. If not your client will either have to live
with the performance or throw faster hardware at the problem.

If you throw enough hardware expenditures at the comparison, the
differences even out. That said, there should be no argument that LAMP
is inherently far more secure. Then there are the economics. Linux and
the LAMP components are free open source included in most
distributions. FWIW, I have two production servers running Fedora Core
4 with hardly a hiccup.

That said, my personal experience with WAMP is non-existent. My
observations are anecdotal. However, people who have routinely worked
with both as consultants have always told me that the LAMP flavor is
their recommendation.
