Linux Server share name is to long for Win98

Has anyone seen this .......and is there a fix for it???

Windows 98 can't see a network share with a name longer than 12
characters. To the best of my knowledge, there's no fix for it.

Does the share name include the server name?
Is it the total length of \\server-name\sharename or just sharename that
should be 12 characters or less?
