Such problems are known to be solved with so named policy routing.
Look at /usr/share/doc/iproute*/ip-cref.* and www.policyrouting.org

Hi all

I have a linux box acting as a server with two ethernet interfaces in
it, each belonging to two different IP subnets.

This server runs a couple of services, such as ftp and telnet and
squid. Both its addresses are private IP's (NAT is configured on both
routers).

The configuration I want to create is to have the squid daemon route
all its http traffic through the 1st router (a Telco router on a faster
line, to which I have no access) and to use the 2nd router (a Cisco
router I configured) for all the rest, mostly ftp connection from the
Internet to this server.

What I'm trying to do is to have this server respond to external
requests using the same router the request came from (i.e. the 2nd
Cisco router, since the 1st one won't forward inbound connections).
I tried to specify multiple gateways on linux but it didn't work.
If I use the 1st Telco router as the default gateway, the server tries
to respond to ftp requests (arriving through my 2nd router) using the
1st router, and this doens't work. HTTP traffic works fine though.
If I use my 2nd router as a default gateway, the ftp requests work
fine, but all HTTP traffic flows through this router too, and the
faster Telco router does nothing.

Maybe I'm missing something obvious.... Any solution to this problem?

TIA
