Here is an ftp client that supports SSL, TLS, Kerberos 4, GSSAPI (Kerb 5),
and SRP:

http://www.columbia.edu/kermit/ftpclient.html

and is fully scriptable.

Most distros pre-install it. Check to see if you already have a
program called "sftp".

sftp is an ssh-based file transfer system unrelated to ftp. "secure ftp"
usually means "ftps" -- FTP secured by SSL or TLS -- or FTP secured by
GSSAPI, Kerberos IV, or whatever.
