Linux Printing Issues

Hi,

I'm running the following:

Red Hat Enterprise Linux WS release 4 (Nahant Update 3)

and

cups-1.1.22

I am serving 20 differrent printers (all HP printers of different
flavors...) Occasionaly, one or more of the printer queues will become
'jammed', in other words, it becomes stopped up with print jobs, but no
jobs come out of the printer. I have found the only way to fix this is
to make a change to the printer in the system-config-printer dialog,
and apply it. This resets the printer in question, and printing works
again.

This is obviously not a permanent solution to the problem, since I
would really like for print queues to not get jammed up at all.

So...here are the questions:

Why does this happen periodically? Why do my print queues get filled
up? Is there a way to avoid this from happening in the future?

Any help/thoughts/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. This print
server is remote, and I'd really like to be able to set this up, and
then forget about it.

- Thanks,

Todd

Oh...and I should note that this machine running CUPS is a print
server, for an entire LAN of 500+ clients....its not just stand
alone...though I don't know if that makes a difference...
