Please could someone give me some brief info for a college assignment
(design a network 3 domains, 1 wan, approx 24 users.)
I only have experience in server 2000 and win based NOS so how is
linux deployed, implemented and administered. Is is suitable for
small business's and how does it compare to server 2000.
How is it actually purchased - it is client based like server 2000 or
limitless?
Please help?
Thank you

Depends on the distribution you choose.

Go to The Linux Documentation Project (http://tldp.org/) and start
reading:
