Hi all,

I have been playing with Fedora Core 5 for a while now and I have
discovered a odd thing
with regards to the ethernet cards. On a laptop I plugged in a
wireless card and the device name
that the laptop gave it was dev35623. Every time I ejected and
inserted the card a new number would appear. I just assumed that the
card wasn't supported or only partially supported. Yet today it
happened again but this time it was on a desktop with 2 Intel Express
Pro 100 cards.
The first card showed up as eth0 (like usual) the second card showed up
as dev904. I can
ifconfig the device as:

ifconfig dev904 inet 172.16.33.33 netmask 255.255.0.0

I can even ping out through the device but I was wondering how do I
rename the device
as eth1?? Or should I have to?

Cheers

Jason

You don't have to, but if you want to, check out 'man ifrename'. It should do what you want.
