hallo,

i need urgent help and i'm not so common with linux but really want to
solve the problem. I installed linux suse 8.1 on my notebook Toshiba
Satellite 2065CDS. when booting the kernel linux freeze when loading
pcmcia. the booting works when i boot with NOPCMCIA=yes. but this could
not be the solution because i need my pcmcia LAN card.
i also tried to load the modules one by one via insmod and it seems that
the yenta_socket modul is the problem (when loading this module the
system freeze to).
as anyone expirience with this toshiba problem?
for what i need the yenta_socket?
is there a solution for the problem?
is the problem fixed in suse 8.2 or 9.0?

thanxs so much for help.

sten

You need to go into your kernel source directory (prob. /usr/src/2.*) and
grep through Documentation/Configure.help for a description of what that
module is for.

What kind of PCMCIA controller does your notebook have? Mine has the "O2
Micro, Inc. OZ6933 Cardbus Controller (rev 01)". You can find this out
with lspci. I had a similar problem with a Satellite 1110. The computer
hang when it tried to initialise the PCMCIA controller. I have fixed it
with a kernel patch for kernel 2.4.* which I can send you on request.
For kernel 2.6.* no patch is required anymore.

Regards,

Markus

I had exactly the same problem with my Toshiba Satellite 2100, both with
SuSE and RedHat.

The solution is to exclude some of the lower-numberd interrupts for use
by PCMCIA. You can do this by adding lines to /etc/pcmcia/config.opts:
exclude irq 2

In my case, I exclude 2 through 7 and all is well. I suspect that I
don't need to exclude all of those, but with only two PCMCIA slots,
I don't run out of available interrupts.
