i installed fedora as a workstation and wanted join it to our w2k
network; i could manage to certain extent to do so; i get all the win98
machines when i browse computers in fedora box; but i cannot get the
server and other xp machines and the shares as well
how to go about it; not comfortable with linux; help appreciated
thanks

Right, you must be using samba!

Tell you frankly, Win NT/2000/XP has a newer version of security model
that is different from Windows 95/98/Me. On NT/2000/XP, user-level
security involves access control lists (ACLs) too.

Try reading Using Samba, 2nd Edition (has a online version too) By Jay
Ts, Robert Eckstein, and David Collier-Brown, specially chapter 5 and
some bit of winbind. That will help you on dealing with encrypted
authentications with 2000/XPs.
