Linux driver for Proxim 8424-WD (USB Orinoco Gold)?

I recently purchased a new Proxim Model 8424-WD wireless
adapter for the USB bus. The box shows this thing as
'Orinoco Gold' based. (I have it working fine on a Windows-XP box.)
But, now I'm considering trying in on Linux.

Which Linux driver does one use for this thing? What wireless chip is
inside?

(I found some charts for Linux wireless cards, and there are very SIMILAR
model numbers, such as "Proxim 8420" and "Proxim 8421", and the chart
shows them as using a chip from "Agere". But, the table does NOT show
what Linux driver that translates to. Maybe if I even knew which Linux
driver those similar models use, might help be make a semi-educated guess
for this model 8424 ?!)

TIA...

Dave

Ok, I have one ADDITIONAL piece of data...I got a response
from Proxim technical support. As is frequently done, they
stress that they do not SUPPORT any Linux driver for the
8424-WD.

They then go on to say that the chip inside the 8424-WD
is from 'Agere Systems'. And, they add finally that it has
the same specs as the 'Proxim 8410'.

So, does this help? What driver-source-code named thing do
I need to download and build to support this 'Agere' chip?

Tia...

Dave

there is no linux driver for orinoco USB afaik
BUT you can crack it open and pull PCMCIA card outside (there is ordinary PCMCIA
gold inside), buy PCI2CPcard adapter and your back in the game

Pozdrawiam.
