Thanks for the reply. No CIPE on the server end, just vanilla
MIcrosoft VPN server.

As I mentioned, I'm not a networking expert. How do I know which
particular tunneling method is being deployed on our MS VPN servers at
work? I didn't need to know any of this to configure my Win2K Pro
system (not a criticism of Linux, just saying it was pretty simple to
set up since Windows was on both ends.) But I'm understanding you to
say that this won't matter if we are running MS VPN at work, since
CIPE will never be able to attach to that.
