I have successfully set up file and printer sharing between a Linux
computer (SUSE 9.x) and a computer running Windows XP (the printer is
on the Linux computer) using Samba. Now I'm trying to do the same using
with my Apple. When I try to conect to the Apple from Linux, it times
out, and when I try to connect to the Linux box from my Apple, I get
the message, "The alias <name of Linux box> could not be opened,
because the original item cannot be found." I've set both computers up
with fixed IP addresses.

If anyone has got this working, please let me know Or point me to
info

Thanks

Alex

I'm writing this message on an Apple (Mac Mini with OSX Tiger),
and there are both Windows and Linux computers in the same network.
All outside connections go via a Linux box.

If the Linux and Windows boxes speak together, this seems to be
a networking problem in the Apple. A Macintosh newsgroup may be
a better place for continued discussion.

For staters:

- Which Apple?
- Which operating system on Apple?
- Can the Linux computer ping the Apple?
- Can the Apple ping the Linux computer?

before we get too serious with your issue, you need to post a bit more
info. as was suggested, what version of apple are you using? how have
you tried to connect from linux to apple, apple to linux? what gagets in
suse have you tried? etc.

have you tried with Command+K or using `smbclient` from the Terminal?
