Linksys WUSB11

I moved this one computer to another room and decided to use wireless
instead of running cable. I installed the wusb11 and using a wap11 as the
access point.

It is painfully slow. A computer hard wired gives a performance of 2177 k
using toast.net. this computer using the wusb11 only gives 147 k.

Are there settings that I am missing. If not, guess I will have to run
cable.

The adapter is 11b, so should give at best 5.5kb/s = about 600KB/sec.
Typically it would be slower, depending on transmission quality. Maybe
its droppping back to a slower speed due to poor transmission.

walls thick, with metallic frames, steel cladding, blocks made from
furnace slag? Whats transmission quality like? The adapter should have
a utility to tell you that.

I've got a WUSB11 connected to a laptop that runs about 1075k. The desktop
computer hard wired to the access point and cable modem runs just a bit
faster... about 1100k.

I'd strongly be looking at the type of environment you're in.

I think you mean 5.5 Mb/s = about 600KB/sec, otherwise, I agree with you.

Yes, 11b. I exchanged it for the linksys pci wireless card. The wireless
card performs great. It may have been, however, that I had not installed
the wusb11b correctly.

I found the WUSB11 to be difficult to get working, initially, especially
with WinXP, but did, after disabling the wireless zero configuration feature
of WinXP and using the Linksys installation/setup program, get it to work
fine. It has worked consistently and flawlessly ever since. I've seen that
a lot of other folks have also had trouble with the WUSB11, so I think it is
just a touchy piece of equipment to get working. But you've solved the
situation by going to the PCI card, and that's good.
