New firmware revision V2.00.8 for this router released from LinkSys December
15, 2003. Anyone knows what issues this release addresses, or anyone have
tried this revision (with good or bad experience)?

I have this WRT54G router, and right now I have a new problem (though the
problem might be of the Linksys USB 54g wireless network adapter I am using
for the wireless portion, with a laptop running Windows 2000 Professional
with Service Pack 4):

Started recently (all of a sudden from middle of no where, shall I say),
frequently the wireless connection (from the USB wireless adapter to the
router) breaks/drops, so I have to, on the laptop, unplug the USB wireless
network adapter and re-plug it in, and then on the laptop Windows desktop,
click the adapter's icon, and then click its Connect button to re-connect.
Anyone knows how to fix the problem? Thanks, and Merry Christmas to
everyone!

James

Be careful - that release is for version 2 hardware. I've only seen version 1
and version 1.1 hardware in the US.

This Revision is for Revision 2 hardware only? My router had firmware
1.4.2.2, and I just now updated to this new 2.00.8 firmware and it somehow
is still working! Quite strange....

By the way, My WRT54G is of hardware revision V1.1, but when I used the
router's web interface/admin to update the firmware and chose the V2.00.8
firmware bin file, it didn't complain at all but just flashed the firmware,
and it just worked. I would think a firmware for hardware revision 2 mostly
like won't work with hardware revision 1 at all.

You were lucky.... Do you see any new functionality?

No, I didn't see any more functionality (from the router's web
interface/configuration) at all. After I flashed this new firmware, the
router just works (I didn't un-power or reset the router by the way), and so
far (about 3 hours) I have not had any wireless connection drop/break (which
I had before the firmware update). In fact I am typing and sending this
message right with the laptop with the wireless connection. On my
wired-connected PC when I ran the linksys router's configuaration, the
status page does show the firmware revision as V2.00.8

One thing to note about the firmware revision V2. On linsys's website about
a week ago there was only link to update to revision 1.42.3, but now that
link is gone and replaced with this V2.00.8 update. Does this imply this V2
is intended to work with hardware revision V1/V1.1, too?

<snip quoted message incorrectly placed at bottom>

AIUI, the firmware is designed to work with either V1 or V2.
The hardware is very nearly identical, though the V2 has fewer lights.

I wouldn't bet my router on it. The v1.1 hardware page still shows 1.42.3 as the
most current firmware for that version of hardware...

Has anyone flashed their v1.0 hardware to this new v2.00.8 firmware?

I understand. What I was saying is at LinkSys' website, when I choose this
particular WRT54G wireless router from its Product list, there are links to
this router's Product Data Sheet, Quick Installation Guide, User Guide and
this router's Firmware Update. If I choose then this router's Firmware
Update, I will only see the link to V2.00.8 (the link to V1.42.3 which was
on the page about a week ago is gone).

My 'problem' is when I flashed my WRT54G router to firmware revision
V2.00.8, I completed forgot that my router is of hardwre revision V1.1 (not
V2), but the firmware update somehow just worked?!
