LinkSys WRT54G Question

This is going to be connected to a Westell modem (Verizon DSL).
I am going to be doing this for some friends and am a little nervous.
I am not an expert but have done my own (single) computer. Here's the
issue.
The wife currently has a reliable hard-wired connection and the
husband would like to have a wireless connection to his laptop through
the WRT54G (not currently installed.). My current plan (don't know if
there are options) is to insert the WRT54G and continue to have the
wired ethernet connectionto her computer. If I run into trouble, I am
not concerned about the wireless connection, but I don't want to screw
up her existing hardwired connection as well!
Is there a way that I can completely bypass her computer past the
WRT54G?
Thanks.
Frank

It sounds like you want to leave hers alone and parallel the router. The
ISP, only gives you one IP address, so that would cause a conflict. You want
to connect the router to the modem, then connect her machine to one of the
four ports on the router, and let him connect to the router wirelessly

You will need to put the 6100 in bridge mode before you hook-up the
router.

I think wrt54G is not adsl router. I think connecting the way you say is
the best one, but it must be done with an adsl router.

If the Linksys WRTG54 is not a router you better tell Linksys.

I didn't say it isn't a router. I said it's not ADSL router.

The router doesn't care how it is connected to the internet be it cable
or DSL. A router is a router. It is not a modem/router combo. Maybe
that is what you meant to say.
