Can this creature be made to work with Fedore Core 5? If so, how? If
not, what cards CAN be made to work with it?

It depends on the chipset in it. You can check this by searching
on the Internet for "WPC54G" and "chipset". I think that that
card has the Broadcom chipset, which is not supported by Linux.

I think that there is still a way to do it using what is called
"ndiswrapper", although I have not done this myself so I cannot
explain how to do it.

The chipset that works with Linux is called "Atheros".

Good luck,

You need to find out which chipset the card uses. My WGC54G has a
Broadcom chipset:

$ lspci
[...]
06:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4306 802.11b/g Wireless LAN Controller (rev 03)

But yours may contain something different. Sometimes companies like
Linksys quietly switch to different hardware without changing the name
of the product...

Until recently, there was no native support for the Broadcom chips, so I
used ndiswrapper which works fine for me.

This situation has changed:

http://bcm43xx.berlios.de/

So now there is a native driver which to my knowledge has been included
in the latest kernel release (not 100% sure about that). The site lists
"WPC54G (ver.1.2) PC Card" among the supported cards - so maybe it
works for you.
