Linksys WPA Upgrades

I have a Linksys WRT54G Router and a Linksys WPC54G Notebook Adapter. Last
night I downloaded the latest firmware for the router(supports WPA) and the
latest driver for the adapter(supports WPA). I had previously installed a
WindowsXP update from Microsoft, that incorporates WPA capability into the
Wireless Zero Configuration utility.

I installed the router firmware and adapter driver. I then set up the
following:

Router

Enabled Wireless Security
Selected WPA Pre-Shared Key
Entered a key (9 digits)

Wireless Zero Configuration in Laptop

Selected WPA-PSK (I assumed that PSK stands for Pre-Shared Key)
Selected TKIP
Entered same key used in the router (9 digits)

Results

Communication between the laptop and router was non-existent.

I then set-up everything for shared WEP, and communications were restored.

Finally, my question. Has anyone else been able to make the WPA capability
work with these particular Linksys products or have I made some stupid
mistake ?

One more issue: Last night after downloading the .bin file for the router
firmware I attempted to perform the upgrade. The update process progress bar
moved a little to the right for about 10 seconds and then a pop-up message
occurred, that informed me the update was completed. Well, it didn't update
anything. I tried this again, with the same results. Even tried it again
after downloading the .bin file again. No success, with the same result.
This morning I tried again and the upgrade ran for more than minute, with
the progress bar getting to about mid-way and then a blank pop-up message
occurred. I waited for a while and gave up. However, based on the version
info for this firmware upgrade, it looked like everything had, in fact, been
upgraded. I used the Web based upgrade utility to perform the firmware
upgrade in all cases. Anyone else ever have this type of problem or did I
forget to do something?

Thanks for any insight on these issues

Bob

Hi Bob,

I have a similar problem with the same equipment. Did you ever get WPA
working?

I posted a message to the group today outlining my problem. Let me ask you
this: when you try to enable WPA-PSK, are you able to disable the "Enable
IEEE 802.1x authentication" check-box in the Authentication tab?

Regards,

Peter
