Hi - I use the Windows XP Professional operating system,
and I just bought and installed a Linksys wireless G
notebook adaptor. I see the "connected" icon in the
system tray, with a connection strength of "excellent" but
when I open IE the computer asks me if I want to connect
to the internet! I was previously using an MSN dial-up
connection to get on the net. Help! Why can't I connect
to the Web when my computer says that I'm connected?!

What are you using for a base station, Cara? This newsgroup supports
Microsoft's Broadband Networking hardware and software, and not network
problems in general, but try disabling your built-in modem if your wireless
adapter isn't connecting to your base station. If that doesn't work, I
suggest you contact Linksys support.

You were "previously using dial-up"? What are you using now? DSL? Cable?

Do you have some sort of Router or wireless access point (WAP)?

Forgive me but, you know you can't just plug in a wireless network adapter
and magically get on the internet, right?

cara,

since you have a connect icon and a strong signal, I'm going to make a leap
here. You said you previously used MSN dialup.

Go into Control panel, click Internet Options, go to the Connections tab,
and UNCHECK "always dial my default connection" and instead check, "dial
whenever a network connection is not present"
