Linksys Wireless Card with Win 98

I installed a Linksys Wireless card on a Windows 98
computer (supposed to be compatible). I am getting
excellent signal strength and the correct SSID from the
router (also Linksys), but Explorer will not connect to
the net. I've rebooted several times in the correct order
(modem-router-laptop). Explorer seems to know immediately
that it is not connected (it asks if I want to work
offline). I changed the logon to use Windows logon so
that I wouldn't be prompted for a network password upon
logging in, but no dice.

Any ideas?

98SE?
it won't work with 98
assuming it's 98SE, are you trying to use WEP? First get it working without
WEP.
Make sure the laptop is set to Infrastructure mode.
Make sure the router has Wireless enabled
Is the laptop getting an IP address?

I'm writing from 98SE laptop with WPC11 card going to a Linksys router.
Works fine.
