I would like to set up a G wireless access point. We already have Bs
for about 4 years.

I connect the wireless access point to one of the ethernet cables and I
am able to access the wirelless access point without using any cables
just typing 192.168.1.245 which is linksys model no WAP54G v2.

I set a new SSID for that point but I was never able to catch that SSID
on my computer. What is he difference bw a access point and a router it
was pretty easy on my home networking.

I plugged the LAN connection to one of the ethernet cables which i use
for my computer.

You should contact Linksys support. This newsgroup supports Microsoft's
Broadband Networking hardware and software only, not other products or
networking in general.

Run the software that came with the Linksys Access Point. It's the easiest
WAP I've ever dealt with.
