About a year ago, I bought one of the linksys Game adaptor bridge
units for an Xbox. It never really got used, so now looking to use in
on a PC.

Ive run the setup wizard and the device is detected under XP, asigns
an IP and Ive also asigned the SSID and 64bit WEP for my network.

That should be it - but it aint working! ;-(

If I try to ping the device on its IP, its not seen and it doesnt show
up anywhere in the system devices.

I have phoned Linksys, who confirmed it should work - and the fact it
is seen by the wizard, should work ok.

Help! ;-)

Anyone use one of these as an AP on a PC?

First I'd connect the bridge directly to the PC, and totally ignore
wireless and wizards, get it setup wired first.

?

It already was setup wired in the past. But just prior to adding the
bridge, I was using a WiFi USB Linksys adapter which was working fine.

When you run the setup for the bridge, it automatically asks you for
your systems SSID and WEP in order to configure it, so I am completly
unclear of what you are suggesting.

What I am unclear about ATM, is should the bridge be seen in system
devices? If it should, it isnt, but have been told by linksys if the
setup sees it, then the device is working.

This is getting weirder!

Ive now managed to get a connection on the bridged machine - but only
to the internet and whilst I am happy with that, I am still not sure
what is going on!

OK, the connection was granted by enabling firewall on the network
connection. Incidently, this is only showing as a normal 10/100
connection and the bridge device not seen. Similarly, I am still
unable to ping the bridge address. (To run bridge admin resources,
this is needed.)

The other hard wired and WiFi machines can now all see the new
connection, but not the other way round!

Any ideas? Is it a setting within the firewall on the new connection
thats the problem?
