Does anyone happen to know for sure if the Linksys WAP54G Wireless
Access Point will in fact work successfully with Linksys WCG200
Wireless-G Cable Gateway? In the documentation for the WAP54G it
states that it ONLY works with the WRT54G, but I do not understand why
it wouldn't work in conjunction with the WCG200 (also an 802.11G
device).
I would like to use the WAP54G as a repeater in my bedroom to clear up
a dead spot (or almost dead), that seemingly the WCG200 does not seem
to cover. And if it does work, am I correct in understanding that I
will not have to run any CAT5 or USB cable from the WAP54G (after it
is configured that is), in order for it to relay the signal from my
WCG200? Am I correct that once configured, I can plug it into the
outlet in my bedroom (upstairs), and it should in fact pickup and
"repeat" the signal from my Wireless-G Cable Gateway that is
downstairs in the den? Will this serve to clear up a dead spot (or an
extremely weak signal)?
Additionally, just out of curiousity, how does the WAP54G differ from
the WSB24 (the wireless B signal booster), which was pulled from the
market last year? Don't the WSB24 and the WAP54G accomplish the same
thing essentially? (other than one being on the 802.11B and the other
being on the 802.11G standard). They both seem to serve the purpose
of carrying the wireless signal farther.
