I have a Linksys BEFW11S4 (802.11b) already set up. I now have to add
a few 10/100BaseT device on another floor and do not like the idea of
running cables.

Looking at the Linksys site, I could get a WAP11 and use it in Access
Point Client mode and be done with it.

But I have other plans and may have to swith everything to 802.11g
soon. So my question is can I get a WAP54G and set it up in Access
Point Client mode. RTFM on Linksys site is not indicating either way
and a chat with "tech support" is even more nebulous.

Thanks in advance.

The BEFW11S4 will not let you do that. Only the WAP11's do. You may need
to get a pair of WAP11's to form a bridge.
