Hi all,
Just though id post my results regarding the subject of the linksys wap
11 drop out problem that so many people have experienced. Ive read, in
nearly all forums, that people are having this problem with the wap11
UK version 2.2, 2.6 and 2.8.
I recently purchased my wap11 (v2.6) to attach to my netgear adsl modem
router so i could have some wireless freedom for my satellite pro
notebook. set up was easy and all was well until 3 hours in of
operation. For what seemed like no reason at all the signal just
vanished! (sound familiar?) and the only way i could get the signal
back was to power cycle ie. turn off the unit and back on again. after
a few days of these frequent drop-outs i began scouting the groups and
forums for an answers. this annoying sleep mode that the card goes into
seemed incurable, i couldn't really find an answer anywhere. To top it
off i read that many people having this problem are being ignored by
linksys tech support....great!
Well despite all this i mailed them anyway. By this time id also tried
the 1.07 firmware update to the device and so chose to mention that in
the mail to them. Within four hours i got a reply. The techie suggested
that the firmware upgrade would require a hardware reset. This required
a sequence of sorts...here's what they wrote:
To reset the WAP, follow the steps below:
1] Press and hold the reset button (back of the unit) for 30 seconds,
after that
2] Unplug the power; keep holding down the reset button for another 30
seconds
3] Then plug back the power and keep holding down the reset button for
30seconds, after that
4] Release the reset button.
I followed this exactly, powered back up the unit and played the
waiting game....
It's now been 5 days, the unit has not dropped its signal once, I've
not had to re-power it once...in fact.. its been as good as gold!
i haven't read of this as a fix anywhere so maybe this will help
everyone else out? I hope so, it has certainly worked for me, that
wap11 access point has now been the best £22 I've spent!
I really hope this works for you, its worked a treat for my v2.6
1. get the 1.07 firmware driver from the linksys site and update the
unit..
2. follow the hardware reset steps from above..
3. play the waiting game..
good luck!
Neil
