Linksys WAP11 questions

I have a version 1.0 (or 1.1) of the LinksysWAP11 running firmware 1.4J.1
(not from Linksys but from another site)...using it as a standard access
point. I have all the hacks for it, the Atmel SNMP tools, etc.

I now wish to set up a wireless bridge. I want to get another WAP11 and put
it in "Access Point Client" Mode so I can still use the 1st AP as an access
point, and establish a bridge to the 2nd WAP11.

My question is should I stick to the original 1.0 or 1.1 versions so I can
hack it as well? Would connecting to the same version with the same
firmware be better then mixing versions?

Does anyone have any feedback on the differences between 1.0 / 1.1 and 2.2
and 2.6? Any interoperability issues?

For clarification ...Ver 2.x do not have USB ports correct? Only the
1.x...correct?

Thanks.

Version 2.2 and 2.6 didn't interoperate when I tried it a few months back.
Not in any mode.

In addition to what Hal said, 1.x utilised the Atmel chipset, 2.x uses
the Texas chipset.

In other words, totally different hardware except for the case.

> 1) the receive power on 2.2 is rather low (I don't know about 2.6).

I don't know the reason - but when I had to change from 2.2 to 1.0 (or 1.1
can't remember) the quality of the link decreased :-( And there is also some
strange behawior of the link: it has to be "refreshed" by pinging the other
side of the link, or it stalls after few minutes. I have the latest firmware
there.

> 2) 2.2 has also not had any acceptable firmware

I had to change firmware to "f" version in all of my 12 2.2 units. With "j"
I couldn't change remote AP's mac in setup, and with "1.1" as I remember i
couldn't make the link to work at all.

> output to the maximum FCC allowed output.

??? HOW ??? 8-) Maybe it would help me. TIA
