I have a WAP11 and a WPC11 that have been working fine since
Christmas. They should be under warranty. I received them as a
Christmas gift. They have been working great -- until last night.

The WPC11 config utility shows a strong signal for 5 or 10 seconds,
then disconnects. I have updated all drivers and config utilities. I
can configure both the WAP11 and the WPC11 from their respective PC's.
For troubleshooting, I have them sitting about 5 feet from each other.
I have tried disabling the WEP on both devices, at the same time of
course, and still have the same symptoms.

Is there a way to determine unit which is having the problem?

WAP11 ver. 2.2, SER. G3120605434
WPC11 ver. 3, SER. B30312A46210

Sent this to Linksys... here is their response:

Thank you for contacting Linksys Customer Support.

Have you tried to change the channel, RTS and the Fragmentation of the
WAP11 v2.2? Here is how.

Open the set-up page of the router by typing in the address
192.168.1.251 on your Internet Explorer
There will be no username and the password is admin
On the wireless section on the set-up page you can change the channel
of the router. Recommended channels are 1, 6 and 11.
Click Apply and continue or wait for the page to return
Click on the advanced tab of the router
Go to the advanced wireless settings
Change the Rts and Fragmentation threshold into 2304
Change the TX rate
Click Apply and continue or wait for the page to return
Now check your wireless connectivity and signal again
Have you upgraded the firmware of the WAP11 V2.2 too? We do have a new
updated firmware on our website and you may want to give it a try. How
many wireless card do you have? Because if you have another wireless
card do the adhoc mode on the wireless settings of the card so that we
could check if the cards has a problem or not.

I'm sorry if you have to try all of this because before we could issue
an RMA of replacement to a device we have make sure that the device is
really defective or not.

Well, I did what they suggested.. no change.

Anyone have any ideas? Should I toss it and get something else?
Thanks,

Try powering off the WAP11 and see if your WPC11 sees a signal.

It sounds like one of your neighbors has a new wireless network on the same
channel with you. If so, He's probably cursing his new toy because it won't
work, either.

Well, Linksys has been no help so far....
I borrowed a friend's SMC brand WAP and substitued it for the Linksys
WAP11. The Linksys WPC11 worked with the SMC WAP the first time!
Then, one at a time, I changed the channel from 1 to 6, enabled WEP,
and enabled the MAC filter. The SMC WAP is working perfectly with the
Linksys WPC11.
Now, I need to get an RMA from Linksys for the WAP11 repair.
I would advise staying away from Linksys.
