A couple of posters in this group recently asked about the latest firmware
for the Linksys WAG54G.
I E-Mailed Linksys UK support and was sent a link to 1.02.7 Annex A (plain
ADSL) =
ftp://ftp.linksys.com/international/....7_03_code.bin
I installed this and had to perform a couple of factory resets, power downs
and configurations before I could get going. It didn't take too long so I
wasn't too unhappy.
To my disappointment, the issues I had reported were not addressed e.g. WPA
TKIP is set but encryption is reported as disabled (support told me that WPA
isn't supported yet on the WAG54G!!??? - I know it's working, it's just the
reporting isn't right) and there is a restriction on the number of
characters that can be submitted to the E-Mail address field for the alerts
meaning I cannot use my preferred address.
Anyway, I was pleased to be up and running and there is new functionality
that I thought I could look at.
Only 36 hours later, I find that I am experiencing the issues that I have
read about a few times. My WUSB54G adapter cannot detect the AP. The
lights on the AP are all green. When I do a reset the Internet light is
red, moves to green and I can connect for 3 or 4 minutes before the AP
disappears again.
Not wanting to mess about, I have reverted my WAG54G to build 1.01.6 and all
is well again.
Does anyone have a link to a stable build and does anyone have any insight
as to when Linksys will publish only stable builds? I find it impossible to
get any sensible answers. Also when will WPA AES be supported - it's on the
drop down but says it's not supported yet. Why put it as a drop down
option?
For coming days, I'll stick to 1.01.6 until someone can point me to a stable
build.
I hope this information helps someone else......
