Linksys USB and Lost Connections

I just installed XP on my son's machine and I'm connected to the Home
network via a WUSB11 from Linksys. I'm using driver 2.6. In addition, I
can't seem to get the thing to work, if I disable Wireless Zero
Configuration AND if I turn off 802.1x authentication. I use a WEP key on my
network. My problem is that my network connection seems to drop for some
unknown reason.

If I use the utility which came with the Linksys device to configure the
thing, it takes two clicks for me to exit Windows. Strange things happening
here.

Is there anything that I should be doing in the configuration to get this
thing to stay connected. I'm using a Linksys Router also? I have since
removed the Linsys Setup Utility.

The thing is a piece of crap. I own one too, and it's unreliable at best.
My advice is to you is return it if you can.

First check the NIC in Device Manager. You might try to enter the
wireless parameters there; I had to do this in order for wireless to
work, even with WZC, on one laptop. If you use the network wizard to
set up the connection, at some point you should be asked to enter the
WEP key, and from that point, be connected automatically. 802.11x
should be unchecked, and the XP firewall turned off also.

I went through the steps you outlined above and my son's computer will not
join the network if 802.11x is not selected. I've bitten the bullet and have
reinstalled the Linksys utility and have loaded the exe file in my Startup
folder to configure the device. My son will just have to live with clicking
twice on Restart or Turnoff, before the thing will accept his command.
Bummer.

I regularly (once a week, sometimes more) have to pull the USB cable and
reconnect it. It seems to "refresh" the adapter, then a few seconds later,
my network connection is reestablished. I am not using a USB hub, have it
directly connected to the back of the box. It is a P.O.S.!!!
