Linksys router won't work after power loss

After a loss of power to the house, the Linksys BEFW11S4 router doesn't want
to connect to the internet. The system tray icon (WinXP machine) shows high
signal strength, but can't connect via router even when plugged in directly
with ethernet cable. Connecting the computer to the cable modem directly
works however. Tried powering everything down and then rebooting a couple of
times with no luck.

Remote computers in other rooms that would normally connect wireless do not
work either, so it's not isolated to the one machine.

Any ideas?

Try a hard reset on the BEF. This will reset the router to factory
default settings so you'll lose WEP keys and anything else you customized.

Power up the router. Find a small recessed button in the back of the
router. Use a pen or paper clip to depress the button for 30 seconds.
This is actually much harder than it sounds, so make sure you're
actually pressing on the button and it is fully depressed.

Afterwards, the router should be good as new though you'll have to re-do
all your settings. If not, the problem may be more serious. Explore the
forums on this site:
www.linksysinfo.org
for reviving a dead (or "bricked") BEFW11S4 router.

What version Linksys BEFW11S4 wireless router?
What version firmware?

Can you access the web based setup inside the router?
http://192.168.1.1

Try resetting the router using the pushbutton on the back of the
router. Push the button with a paper clip and hold it continuously
for about 45 seconds. Let the router boot, but then disconnect the
power. Wait about 10 seconds, and power it back up. Connect to the
router with a web browser and setup the WAN side again. Hopefully,
all that happened is the flash memory was corrupted by the power
glitch.
