Linksys router: sufficient?

Hi,

I would like to add a wireless router to my Internet setup at home. I
currently have a non-wireless DSL/hub router by Linksys. Since I
bought a laptop, and want to use it throughout the house, I want to
add a wireless router with a USB wireless card.

I was looking into the Linksys BEFW11S4 router, which I will be using
for only the laptop and for basically internet access and printing.
Our house is three floors, 230m2, and the router would be on the
second floor.

The main issue is with range of the router. It's only for web access
so I don't need much bandwidth but penetration inside the house. What
are the issues with these routers. I want a cheap solution. Is it
worth getting the .11g or is the .11b technology sufficient?

With all the new technology, is the regular BEFW11S4 sufficient for my
needs? I am not concerned with bandwidth but the range since our house
is large. It will be used for browsing and downloading of files on the
network mostly.

I am looking for an inexpensive but efficient solution.

Thanks for advice,
George

-g has inherently shorter range than -b. Linksys is a good, inexpensive
wireless router and switch.

Is there anywhere a comparison of the various
"broadband router + 4-switch + wireless" routers ?

Don't buy linksys. the BEFW11S4 V4 is crap and their tech support has no
clue how to help you when it fails. T

Go to the vendor's web page and look at the support they offer. I haven't
been real thrilled with Linksys support. I have a BEFW11S4 and a WUSB-11
and the drivers in XP do not work very well with it. I've never got the WEP
mode to work properly.
