without a problem yet when i connect this up to a Netgear ADSL modem / line
i get a IP addy and DNS but no internet on any of the computers.all the PCs
can see the router and acess the log in page / ping however unable to ping
any web addess or global IP addy on the internet

You need to configure one of them to work as a bridge. Right now, both
devices are trying to be routers. The usual plan is as follows:

WAN ->> adsl modem (configured as a bridge) ->> router ->> LAN clients

Hi

Thanks for the reply,
I wasn't aware that the ADSL modem (Netgear dmp11) would act as a bridge? as
there isnt' anywhere to configure this. the modem itself works fine when not
connected to the router

Cheers

I'm going by past experience. So far, I have owned Netopia and Westell
adsl modems I had to set each of them to work in bridge mode before I
could use my linksys router on my LAN. Both modems were factory default
set up as routers out of the box. This is true even though each of them
had just one LAN port and neither was wireless. The configuration
process for each was completely different (the Netopia took me all the
livelong hair-pulling day). It seems entirely plausible, even likely,
that a netgear device would have user-selectable modes of operation. It
is almost certain that the Netgear has a built-in webserver or some
other means of configuration.

What model Netgear is it?

work any longer
