I'm going by past experience. So far, I have owned Netopia and Westell
adsl modems I had to set each of them to work in bridge mode before I
could use my linksys router on my LAN. Both modems were factory default
set up as routers out of the box. This is true even though each of them
had just one LAN port and neither was wireless. The configuration
process for each was completely different (the Netopia took me all the
livelong hair-pulling day). It seems entirely plausible, even likely,
that a netgear device would have user-selectable modes of operation. It
is almost certain that the Netgear has a built-in webserver or some
other means of configuration.
What model Netgear is it?
