Linksys port forwarding question

Hi!

I am running RH9 and want to setup a webserver. If I connect my
server to my cable modem it works fine.

However, I don't want the RH9 box connected directly to it. I want it
and other servers sitting behind my router.

I have several PCs connected to my router and all gain internet
access. But when I setup the port forwarding(port 6000 -> PC1,port
6001 -> PC2, etc) it does not work from the outside. Inside the
firewall it works fine.

When I check to see what the outside IP is(looking at status on
Linksys wireless router) I can type that IP in and specify a
particular port and voila I see a particular web server. As soon as
I go outside the firewall (from some other location in the world) and
try to use the IP, I cannot ping it, I cannot see it at all. I
disabled the DHCP server and all the PCs have static IP (inside). My
outside IP is usually good for quite a while.

What am I missing? As I mentioned when I hook up RH9 directly to the
cable modem it works but I want to use my router instead.

What needs to be setup or configured on my Linksys router(wireless) in
order to gain access from the outside?

Thanks

When you access the servers from the internet be sure that you are entering
in the correct address and port number. You have to use your public IP
address to access any of your computers. The router does the translation
and forward. Also you can only ping the public IP address, so you are in
effect pinging the router unless you have a machine set up in the DMZ. If
you want to test your connection to the actual server telnet using the
public IP address and forwarded port.

Also some Linksys router firmware versions have a conflict with SPI and port
forwarding so make sure you have spi disabled and see if that works.

Yes. I am using the correct external IP (public) as far as I know.
When I use the public IP (which comes from my ISP) it works fine at
home. But from any other location it does not work. I am using the
correct port number because it works perfectly from the house but does
not work at all from my office.

I do not have DHCP running. I have each PC configured with a static
IP. And it works perfectly using the correct port and using the
public IP from home but does not work at all from outside the
house(such as from my office or if I call any friends up).

I do not have anything setup on DMZ. I am just forwarding the ports.
It works perfectly when I use the correct port using the public IP
from within my home but not at all from my office. When I setup
Linksys to admin the router remotely. The public IP works perfectly
from inside the house but not from outside the house(like my office or
any other location on the planet).

I do have some servers on the wireless net in the home. All servers
whether they are wireless or whether they are connected physically to
the router, they all work perfectly inside the house using the public
IP(which is what my ISP gives me. I know what it is by looking at the
status, WAN IP). When I use the private IP(internal) it works
perfectly also using the correct port and such. This all works
perfectly within the house whether it is wireless or not, using the
public or private IP (IP on the router) using the correct port.

But as soon as I use another PC outside my house the whole thing that
I mentioned does not work and that is when I am using the public
IP(from my ISP) trying to connect to any of the servers on the port I
specified whether they are wireless or not. Nothing works outside but
all works inside the house.

So I figure I must have something setup incorrectly.

Could someone please suggest something?

Thanks
