LinkSys - connecting to my college network

Hi there,
I hope someone on here is kind enough to have the time to read over my
predicament and see what they think. It would be much appreciated...

I have a LinkSys wireless network in my home, which connects to my DSL via
my Ethernet modem (one PC is connected directly by hardwire to the modem).
My laptop has a LinkSys 802.11g access card, which works just perfectly in
the home.

However, at college, I have been trying to connect to the wireless network
in the library with no luck whatsoever. The IT people at the college don't
seem to know what's wrong either. I have used all the proxy settings that
are required when using the college network.

My computer connects to the college wireless network, because it shows my IP
address and the status bar in the corner, as well as the signal strength as
"Excellent". However, I cannot get any applications such as IE, Outlook, AIM
etc to connect to the internet.

Today I tried removing all the other network connections from my Windows XP
to see if re-installing the card would make a difference - none.

I am at a bit of a loss here - can anyone give me some suggestions as to
what I could do next?

Thanks a lot!
Fraser, Scotland.

Are you assigned a static or are you receiving a dynamic IP address?

If dynamic, are you getting an address in the correct range?

Can you ping anything?

Check the default gateway IP address. Do you have the same gateway address?
