Is this a common problem.

It is a BEFSR41router w/ 4 port switch.

The device was on an always on power strip with the Cable Modem
(Motorola Surfboard)

Her lately it will lose the connection every day and has become very
hard to reset.

It is also only about three months old, replacing a wireless unit
(Linksys) used in wired mode) that did the same thing.

It ran great for a while, now ........

Is this something that can be expected or is it just bad luck. Is there
anything I can/could change about the setup that might make it last
longer.

Thanks
Don
