Hello,
I have a question of the strength of the LinkSys 802.11G WIFI Router.
I have it set up and I can receive the signal, but it is an intermittant
process.
I have a new laptop running XP and I am using a Belkin 802.11B card.
Everything has worked great - as far as setting up both the card and the
router.
My question is about the signal drops that I have noticed.
The signal will run excellent one moment to poor the next and then I will
have no signal at all.
This is while sitting still somewhat facing the router, which is up and
behind a wooden counter.
How robust is the signal from this type of router? Do you have to sit
perfectly still and aim your laptop card at the router - in a line-of-sight
fashion?
I would think the router would run Near Line-of-Sight (signal bounce off
walls) and/or Non LOS (through walls and plaster) - within say 25 feet.
I am in the same room as this router and wonder if changing frequency would
make a difference? Perhaps the issue is with the Belkin card and its
receiving quality?
The router actually sits on a bookshelf up and behind a wooden
desk/countertop. Its nestled about 6 inches inside the shelf (from the
edge).
Does anyone have any suggestions, recommendations or reflections based on
their own personal experiences?
I want to remain locked on to the signal. Perhaps a different frequency? I
do not believe their are any interference issues (cordless phones etc.,).
Any insight will be very much appreciated.
Thanks in Advance.
Jim
