Hello all!

Maybay someone can help me with the following problem:

I have bought a D-Link DI-624 Router to set up a WLAN in our house and
connected it to the Internet via DSL. Everything worked fine and I have a
functioning WLAN-Connection in most parts of the house. The problem though
is that the signal of the WLAN does not quite reach all the way through the
building for we have an old building that is quite large. Also the Router
has to be installed in the room with the telephone and unfortunatley the
room is located not in the middle of the house but somewhere in the corner.
Since I wanted to avoid to install any more cables in the house, I was
thinking about a way to have the signal repeated in the middle of the house.
Somebody told me, that I could just install an Access Point and that it
would be possible integrate this AP into the existing WLAN to enhance the
reach of that WLAN.

So I bought a D-Link DWL-2000 AP and tried to configure it in a way, that it
would wirelessly integrate into my existing WLAN and repeat my WLAN-Signal
in the house. Unfortunately; I did not find I way to do this. I managed to
set up a completly new WLAN with this AP but two things did not work:

A. I did not manage to have the AP use the exisiting WLAN to use as a
data-source
B. Even when I used a regular network cable to connect the AP to the
internet, I still did not manage to configure the AP to repeat an existing
WLAN instead of setting up a new one.

Does anyone have any idea about how to do this? Can it be, that the DWL-2000
AP is not suited for this kind of 'signal-enhancing' at all?

I appreciate any comments!

Thanks for your help,

Jens

i know for a fact that you can't connect the dwl2000AP to the DI614
router
WIRELESSLY - i tried all day friday after being told by the
supplier that it
would work! eventually someone knowledgeable at dlink told me this
would
"never work" ((

i don't see why connecting the 2000AP with a cable to one of the
routers
ports couldn't be made to work, but alas i'm not an expert and can
offer
no further assistance.

typical access point will have dhcp with enable/disable options
up to three of em work pretty simple together --- heres a dlink manual
clip....
~~~
Load Balancing: Allow several DWL-1000AP+'s with the same group name to
share
the wireless network traffic. We recommend an optimal number of three
DWL-1000AP+'s
in close proximity because there are 3 non-overlapping channels (as
specified by the
802.11b standard.) After selecting this option, you will be prompted to
enter a Group
Name. All the APs that share Load Balancing must have the same Group Name
and
the same SSID. Assign each Access Point a different non-overlapping channel
(e.g.,
1, 6, 11).
