I have 2 pcs linked to a vigor2200 router (via ethernet
cat 5) This router is connected to via a cable broadband
modem.
I have configured each pc to access the internet and both
work fine. However I can't get the two pcs to recognise
each other. Both are running windows xp. I've set up a
netwok floppy using the scripts but still they won't
recognise each other.. Do I have to change any settings
in the router??

I don't know the specfics for the vigor2200, but here are
the typical problems.

Check that both PCs have the same workgroup name
(assuming XP Home -- the Pro supports domains).

Check that you are not running a software firewall on
either of the PCs (or ICF). If the router has a built-in
firewall, disable the firewalls on the PCs.

Check that the IPs on each PC are on the same subnet
(typically 192.168.0.x or 192.168.1.x). Run command
prompt and enter ipconfig. If not, there is a
misconfiguration in the TCP/IP settings in the PC.
