I passed my line test and I am being activated next wednesday with Pipex. Is
there any way to find out the results as I would like to know if the line is
capable of 1mb for future reference.

Thanks
John

Goto https://www.secure.ndo.com/servlets/homeadsl - enter your telephone
number.
Top of step two it tells you what speed your line will support.

if it was a physical test the engineer could have told you. If it was
necessary to do a physical test you are very likely to be too far away
for 1Mb.

If you wait a week or so your line status in the database might get
upgraded, what does

Once you have the kit installed and are enabled look at the loop
attenuation and SNR reported by the modem. 1 and 2 meg services need the
former to be less than 45dB and the latter to be a high as possible, but
you might see some problems if it is down below about 10dB or so.

I'm speaking here as someone with knowledge of modems in general, so
please don't pick holes in the above, I believe BT apply the 45dB figure
but they also work on a rule of thumb <3.5km line length. If you have
extra joints in the cabling or thinner gauge cable the typical 10dB/km
attenuation can be exceeded, hence the 10dB margin.

I've just tryed both of those, I was thinking of going to 1MB when I
get around to finishing of the ftp server\firewall\modem\ups combo
project.
I can't. Is it possible that these results could be affected by having
a DACS on the line? As far as I was aware you cannot have broadband
with DACS. Would that be right?

yes the DACS can mess things up - it gets in the way of the testing
and in any case you don't know which copper pair will carry the ADSL
so by definition you don't know its loss until the DACS is gone.

What did the line checkers say ? RA?E or RG?E or what

They never said that!
They said;

Adaptive Rate: GREEN (Vispa Home 512k and Vispa Office 512k)
Fixed Rate: RED (Vispa Home 1Mb, Vispa Office 1Mb and Vispa Office
2Mb)
Exchange Name: SHREWSBURY
Exchange State: This exchange is already Broadband Enabled
Reason Code: No Broadband on line, can proceed with Vispa Broadband
order

Actually that's my sisters results, I live across the road. Mine is
the same except, reason code broadband enabled, can proceed with
migration.

When I signed up for ADSL with Pipex, I got a confirmation letter from BT
telling me what my activation date would be, and what the maximum rate was
for my line - 8Mbps!

that'll be RG then. Looks like 1M is off the agenda, unless you find
you have an acceptable loss when you get the 512k installed and can
persuade someone (ISP / BT) to re-test for 1M to change the status
from RED to something less like flames.

Has the Fixed rate result been Amber you would have had a chance.

BTW - this test is wrong.
It says this even if broadband IS on the line.
