Hi
I ordered nildram dsl1000 on the 13 of novemeber.
They said it would be activated on the 25th.
Yesterday i tried to connect to my 56k dial-up jobby and got connected at
32000bps.
I usually get around 40000bps.
I tried connecting again and got 28.800 :-(
If i pick the phone up, put it down then pick it up again i either get
"please hang up and try again" or a dodgy noise.
Happens if i disconnect from the internet and try to reconnect as well.
Is this part of nildram/bt activating my line or have they knackered my line
?????

Thanks

Gareth

The connection speed difference could be down to ADSL being enabled on your
line.

However, if the "please hang up and try again" or a dodgy noise started
yesterday and still exists call 151 (or 0800 800 151 from a non BT line) and
report a fault - no harm mentioning the line is due to be enabled for ADSL
and that may have contributed to the problem so they are aware of all the
facts.

Sunil

EXACTLY the same thing has happened to me. I got turned down for adsl due
to noise on the line 7 days ago, but my dial-up (connected through a filter)
was unaffected so I left all the filters as adsl ready.

Then on Tuesday I suddenly started getting connections of typically 28 or
even 26kbits/s. Last night I decided to try WITHOUT the filters, and lo and
behold I was back to getting 44kbits/s (although I'm currently connected at
only 38kbits/s so maybe there's more to it yet). The phone was also
atrocious in mid-week. It would be fine for 2 minutes, then alternate
between really quiet and loud, or with interference. Too early to say if
removing filter has helped that as it was intermittent.

I've yet to get a call from freeserve to confirm cancellation of the adsl
order, so I'm guessing they've done something without informing me, although
I don't really understand how the process works.

I've got an engineer coming out Sunday to have a look, but really I just
want to give him an earbashing about getting a clean enough line for adsl

I get the interference you've mentioned when I call my ISP only (Tiscali),
never happens when calling anyone else.

I forgot to mention i am plugged straight into an extension lead which goes
straight into the main socket without any filters etc.
I have tried without moving the pc so i am going straight into the socket
bypassing the extension and its the same.
I think there maybe something to do with the voltage. Usually i get a red
led light up on my phone as soon as i pick it up.
At the moment i get it when i pick it up the 1st time but the second time i
get no light and either a almost silent dial tone, an audible"please hang up
and try again message" or a message that that cant be heard as it sounds
like the line is buzzing.
