The person to whom I was replying had a downstream margin of 24 dB

15 dB was the upstream attenuation :-)

Whoops, looked at the incorrect figure, me must remember to not go on
newsgroups after spending day (a very long day) with parents, kids &
grand kids...

I'll crawl back into bed now.....
