Authenticated (non-anonymous) connections to a server are legally limited
only by the number of client-access licenses (CALs) you own. Event then,
you can turn off the license logging service and the limit will not be
enforced by software. The client OS usually has no bearing on the matter.
XP Home cannot join a domain, but the fact that it is running the Home
edition is irrelevant.
