Hi,
I was trying to install limitlogin and ran into a few problems.

First, can it really be installed on a Windows 2000 server?

Second after I downloaded the latest .NET, I still get the error that it
needs .NET 1.1.4322. I had downloaded a version 2.x

Third, in the instructions it mentions to enable ASP.net in Windows
2003. How do I enable that in Windows 2000?

Thanks
Steve

Hi,

By the way, this is not from Microsoft, it's from me, Steve

Thanks

Never heard of it.

You have to install both.
2.x does not replace 1.x
They are exclusive, similar to Java JREs where each update just adds a new
version to the list and the old one it still there and running. So you
install both .Net1.x and .Net2.x and then apply whatever updates & SPs to
each one. What it amounts to is that you have to have the one that is the
same as the developer used to write the Application,...similar to the way
some Java Applications require a certain version of the Java JRE.

You don't enable it in Windows specifically, you enable it in IIS. Begin
with Add/Remove Programs,..Windows Components and install IIS, then ASP.Net.
Doing so will enable it in IIS.

Well it has been my experience with it here. We ended up with half a dozen
separate versions of the JRE on the machines.

When it updates I think the new one becomes the "default" one used. Maybe
your App is rigged to use the "default" JRE,..but yet only works with a
certain version,...so it breaks.

In our case like that the App is set to use a certain version regaurdless of
the "default" so it still works as long as it finds the version it is
looking for.

That's my guess anyway.
As standard practice here I always turn off the Update feature in the JRE.
I can't stand the JRE as it is,...let alone allow it to mindlessly update.
