I see messages in this NG frequently from people trying to get cable
modem service, so while I suspect that this isn't really on topic,
it's useful info...
an excerpt from my technical notebook, at

if my workaround is correct.)

Lightpath Folly - or How Not to Get Cable Modem Service for Your
Business.
If you want to connect a business to the internet by cable modem and
your local cable company is Cablevision, they will refer you to
Lightpath. Now, Lightpath bills itself, variously, as Business Class
Internet, Cablevision Business Class Internet Access, and similiar
things. There are, however, a few small things that they won't tell
you. Depending on whom you ask, you may even decide that they've
actively lied to you.
First of all, a business class internet provider that doesn't offer
static IP addresses? Can you say "fly by night"? Ok, you can work
around that with dyndns.org (who are extremely good at what they do,
and very reasonably priced). At that point, you will discover the big
lie... Lightpath claims to sell a business class internet service, and
if you ask Dan O'Leary (my salesperson) if you can run servers on that
line, he'll tell you "Sure, no problem." If you read - carefully - the
two page form that you fill out to become a Lightpath customer, you'll
see no indication that there's a skunk in the woodpile...
Later you will discover that Lightpath blocks your incoming port 80,
so certainly you can run servers - as long as you don't actually need
people to be able to ACCESS them. At that point, they will tell you
that you need to upgrade your service (for only four times your
current cost) in order to unblock port 80. Where I come from, they
call that bait and switch.
Cute, heh? My current suggestion is to just use Optimum Online - it's
less than half the price of the Lightpath service, and there's no
apparent difference. Use webhop (also from dyndns) to workaround the
port blockage problerm.

I hope this saves someone some aggravation.
