Many corporations and companies use the Microsoft Software Assurance program
to purchase software. There is an annual fee for this service, but while
under the Software Assurance contract you can upgrade any covered operating
system without additional charge. For example, you can upgrade Windows 98
to Windows XP, or Office 97 to Office XP. In many cases this annual fee is
less than it would cost to upgrade several hundred (or several thousand, or
several tens of thousands, or ...) computers if you bought the operating
system and applications at retail or wholesale cost.
