Hi there,

my dad asked me today if it is true that you have to pay Microsoft each year
for the license and Windows update, since that is what they were told by
their Head Quarters... and they were charged 100 Euro yearly for the PC they
use.

I never have heard of this, but maybe the rules are different if you are a
company/organization and you buy more then one license?
Could somebody shed some light on this...

Thanks in advance,
Ellen

Hi Haggis,

that is what I told my dad too (once you by the OS, it theirs), but I just
wanted to make sure ...
He called them and he was told it was for the windows updates...and as of
next year they didn't need to pay.

My dad told them these are for free, so to making a long story short, they
would call him back after checking why...

Thanks for your reply!

Ellen

Many corporations and companies use the Microsoft Software Assurance program
to purchase software. There is an annual fee for this service, but while
under the Software Assurance contract you can upgrade any covered operating
system without additional charge. For example, you can upgrade Windows 98
to Windows XP, or Office 97 to Office XP. In many cases this annual fee is
less than it would cost to upgrade several hundred (or several thousand, or
several tens of thousands, or ...) computers if you bought the operating
system and applications at retail or wholesale cost.
