Leaving virgin.net - will I loose e-mail address?

I've used virgin.net as my ISP for 8+ years now - initially on dial-
up
and now on ADSL broadband. I was planning on changing broadband
supplier, maybe to o2, but I cannot afford to loose my virgin.net e-
mail address. If I ask Virgin for my MAC and move to another ISP will
they cancel my e-mail account?

If the answer to this question is "yes, they do cancel your e-mall
account" then would the following cunning plan work to keep the e-
mail
account active? - Ask Virgin to downgrade me back to dial-up and then
sign up to o2 broadband as a new, rather than a transfer, customer?

Why leave Virgin? Many on here complain, but realistically if you have a
good working connection they are one of the best, so why change?

Move to any other provider and you might get to thinking how good Virgin
really was!

Why would I need a MAC? Correct me if I am wrong but I thought that
you only need a MAC to change from one broadband supplier to another.
If I go: Virgin broadband -> Virgin dial-up -> O2 broadband, why would
O2 need to see a MAC? Surely it's just like a customer who has never
had broadband signing up to O2's service?

Bwhaaaa! You don't work for Virgin do you? They consistently come near
the bottom of customer satisfaction surveys. I'm sure that I can get a
faster, more reliable and cheaper service elsewhere.

I suppose getting my own domain is an option. How much does it cost?
One of my reasons for leaving Virgin was to save some money so I don't
want to end up spending more!

I'm currently paying £15 per month for 8 Meg Virgin ADSL broadband
(lucky to get 2 Meg in reality) - I can get the same on O2 for £7.50
(as an O2 mobile customer).

I don't recall any mention of a "deactivation fee" when I signed up to
Virgin broadband - just a cancellation fee if you cancel before the
minimum contract term is up. The O2 broadband website doesn't mention
any "activation fee" for new customers either...

I am sure that oers will tell you wheter you do or not. But there is a
further pont o be made: it cots very very little thse days to regster a
domain..I think it's abouta fiver a year - and get an email adress
independent of any ISP, that you can redierect to whoever IS your ISP at
any given time.

I strongly suggest you do this, set it vurgin for now, get everyone you
know using it, and then shift ISP's when all email is coming in to the
newer address.

You can drop loads of spam when you shift as well.

No. I just need to blow the ash out of it again.

Only replace them when the cats pee on them.
