Leaving Tiscali Datastream

I've bitten the bullet and canceled Tiscali. Unfortunately I'm on
datastream, so I'm going to have to wait for BT to remove the marker
(after my remaining 10 days of peak-download frenzy).

How do I actually find out when the the line is free?

Do Tiscali not provide MACs? I'm on Virgin.net, which is also DataStream
but as far as I know they will issue a code for migrating elsewhere.

They do, but ukonline told me they can only migrate me if I have an
ipstream MAC and not the datastream MAC that Tiscali gave me.

I'm open to suggestions if anyone has a better idea that doesn't involve
weeks without adsl. Basically I would be happy with Ticali's AUP if only
they would stick to their end and give me unlimited off-peak. In practice
they limit everything but HTTP to download speed, even off-peak. I don't
need more than 512kb/s, but I don't want to spend more than I'm paying
Tiscali.

That should have read "dial-up speed, not "download speed"

There are some ISPs that do migrations from Datastream to IPstream such
as efhbroadband. I don't know what they are like though. However if
UKonline don't, I can't see any way to speed the process up, although it
has to be said I'm no expert!

I thought that there was no longer a problem with such migrations
and there's therefore a chance that UK Online are misinformed, so
I'm cross-posting in case someone in uk.net.providers can clarify
the situation re UK Online... or point to anything which staff at
UK Online should do/read to enable such migrations. Peter M.

Not answering your question at all, but has someone referred you to
UKOnline?
If you have a referrer, then both you and the referrer gets a free months
access.

Let me know if you would like me to refer you!

Migrated from Tiscali datastream via MAC to PlusNet in less than a week. No
problems at all.

You can get a MAC from Tiscali now, although they may plead ignorance.

If you get a MAC code it should be fairly easy to migrate to another
ISP.

Problem is that sometimes Tiscali 'forgets' to cancel/cease service
so you have to keep chasing them, migration is the best way to go, but
by now it may be to late to start the process..

As I said in another reply, ukonline told me they can only migrate me if I have an
ipstream MAC and not the datastream MAC that Tiscali gave me.

I don't know why it matters, as they are LLU based, but it's what they
told me.
