Certainly having a detrimental effect on my connection.

Look how the ping gradually rises from 1745 - 1815 (the white spaces have no significance)

Meanwhile, at the uk.telecom.broadband Job Justification Hearings, Graham.
chose the tried and tested strategy of:

Smokeping graphs yesterday show exactly the same pattern as you saw on pings
to internet hosts. Pings to Be's DNS and mail hosts show no such pattern, so
I can only conclude Be were having internet connectivity issues.

Sorry I saw your post too late. Here is the f8lure graphic of the entire event

http://ssv.netfirms.com/ping.jpg

I have had f8lure pinging my router all week (for no real reason) I saw this
interesting blip, and also by chance saw a post by an admin in uk.net.providers.aaisp.
Not sure why A&A are concerned with BE issues, I suppose they provide IP telephony
over other ISP connections.
Anyway, I thought it might be useful to them to see my graph, and thought it might
be of interest here.

When I said the latency is having a detrimental effect in my connection, I just meant
It stuck out like a sore thumb on the graphic. I didn't notice the increase to ~82ms with
VoIP etc. I suppose many would consider that a good baseline figure.

Not just IP telephony. A&A now provide the basic broadband connection
using either BT wholesale or Be services. The Be traffic costs are
lower than those over BT services, but the installation charge is
greater, AFAICR, since I don't have the necessary LLU options.

Thanks for that, I had no idea.

BE lost some of their backhaul links, therefore capacity was reduced causing
increased latency
Don't know the cause, but likely an issue with a 3rd party supplier

As already stated, A&A provide a BE wholesale service - started some time
last year. A bit pricey though compared to BE and very pricey compared to
O2, however it's aimed I believe more at business customers.
