Laptop users out of office

We have an issue with our laptop users when the leave the office. I have
them setup to use a local profile (no profile location set in AD) instead of
the roaming profile that our desktop users have. This works great in house
when on our network. However, when they are no longer on our network it will
take 5 mins (almost exactly) to load their desktop after inputting their
password. Does anyone know of a way to fix this or another method of having
them setup. I can set them as roaming profiles but then they have to wait
for the network time out a click the roaming profile can not be found... use
local copy message.

Thanks.

Possibly the fast logon feature has been disabled:

I found the answer. If you disable the webclient service you will not wait
to boot off the network.

Hmmm - this is a well documented issue, but I didn't think it would affect
logons with cached credentials . Thanks for the followup. See:
