Not sure where to post this but I will start here.
Network is in mixed mode NT4 and Win2003.
Workstations are XP.
involves a mobile laptop user that also has a desktop. There has always been
some question about security and profiles since this user moves his laptop
back and forth from a Domain enviroment to a peer to peer Workgroup network.
This scenario: The laptop user can sign onto the network and can use shared
resource accept those that are shared on his desktop, which is on the same
domain.
On the laptop you can see his desktop on the brows list but when you click
on it "you do not have permissions" window pops-up BUT go to a DOS prompt on
the laptop and the "net view" command is successful in seeing the available
resources and "net use" command is successful in attaching to them.
Reversely form the desktop the laptop is on the brows list and when clicked
will show resource on the laptop and let the resources be attached to.
Both of these computers are logged on to the domain with the same users
login and password.
I'm baffeled.
Something I just now thought of, the laptop gets it's IP peremeters from a
dhcp and is on a seperate subnet.
When I did the "net use", out of habit I used the IP address to attach to
the desktop not the name.
These computers are on seperate subnets, same domain, using the same DNS.
What am I missing?
